W!se Announces 2017-2018 Blue Star Schools

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Working in Support of Education (W!se) is pleased to announce that 258 high schools in its national network have earned the distinction of being named a Blue Star School for their students’ outstanding performance on the 2017-2018 W!se Financial Literacy Certification Test.

This national standardized Test is administered to students after a course or unit on personal finance. Students who pass the Test become Certified Financially Literate™ and earn a W!se CFL™, demonstrating that they have developed sound financial knowledge and skills.

To earn the coveted Blue Star School award, a school must achieve an 80% passing rate on the Financial Literacy Certification Test and have either a majority of students on a given grade level take the Test or have the students who took it achieve an average score of 85% or higher.

The Test is administered as part of W!se’s award-winning Financial Literacy Certification program. Schools enrolled in the program teach a course or unit on personal finance using instructional resources from W!se, including a curriculum outline aligned to national and state standards, and then administer the Test. Since its introduction, the program has become integral to personal finance instruction in thousands of classrooms across the United States and is now offered in 48 states.

Phyllis Frankfort Perillo, Founder and CEO of w!se said, “Blue Star Schools are in the national spotlight. This award recognizes and validates the hard work of personal finance educators who graduate their students with the knowledge and skills necessary for being financially literate.”

Blue Star Schools will be honored at W!se’s 16th National MoneyPOWER Conference for Financial Education on November 6, 2018 to be held at Citi World Headquarters in New York City. Among the sponsors is Santander Bank.
