Taxes are complicated. You would think that if the government wanted to make sure everyone paid their taxes, they would make it easier to file. You would also think that the internet would make it easy to file online with but a few clicks.
There is a whole industry – from Turbo Tax to HR Block and others – that is designed to make filing your taxes easier. So why is it still so hard?
In part, we find out, it’s because of that industry. You see, if filing your taxes was as easy as it could possibly be, no one would need those companies anymore. So they spend millions of dollars every year lobbying the government to keep the filing of individual taxes as complicated as it is now.
