The Global Communications
Institute (GCI)
is a distinctive and intensive two-year program for New York City young people in high school. Students develop interpersonal skills and cultural awareness while learning the fundamentals of effective written and oral communication, money W!SE strategies, workplace and social etiquette, goal-setting, and decision-making to enhance their skills to meet the challenges of an increasingly competitive and international workforce. Selected students participating in the Institute meet role models, visit cultural institutions and participate in applied learning activities. GCI helps young people become self-confident and sophisticated, and helps them understand how cultural differences affect both social and business interactions.
The core of the program is the Summer Institute, a five-day or ten-day foundation program held in July at the private New York Athletic Club. Students who successfully complete the Summer Institute continue with GCI, participating in a series of events throughout their junior and senior years. Through GCI, students become part of a supportive community of young people who are committed to understanding themselves and the world around them in order to fulfill their personal goals and responsibilities.
